Actor Shia LaBeouf was arrested early Mardi Gras morning after allegedly assaulting two men; he faces two simple battery charges, New Orleans police say.

NEW ORLEANS — Actor Shia LaBeouf was taken into custody in New Orleans on Mardi Gras Day after two men reported they were assaulted, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Court records show the renowned actor was arrested early Tuesday morning. NOPD said they responded at 12:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Royal Street, after LaBeouf was identified as the man who was “reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasing[ly] aggressive at a Royal Street business,” a release said.

He faces two charges of simple battery.

Police said a staff member tried to make LaBeouf leave and when he was removed from the building, he allegedly hit one of the victims with “his closed fists” multiple times.

Victims told police LaBeouf “left, but then came back, acting even more aggressive” as people tried to hold him back.

He reportedly hit the same person again, landing punches to their upper body. He then reportedly struck another person in the nose before being held down again until police arrived.

He was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries; the extent of his injuries are unknown at this time.

NOPD said he was then released from the hospital.

According to court records, LaBeouf is set to appear in magistrate court on Tuesday afternoon.

This is a developing story.
