The New Museum in New York has announced that its OMA-designed expansion will open to the public on March 21. Designed in collaboration with executive architect Cooper Robertson, the 60,000-square-foot addition sits alongside the museum’s existing SANAA-designed building on the Bowery.

The project doubles the museum’s gallery space and introduces improved circulation through three new elevators, an atrium stair, and a public entrance plaza. New public amenities include an expanded seventh-floor Sky Room, a 74-seat Forum for talks and events, and additional facilities for artists and creative production.

Upper levels will house a dedicated studio for artists-in-residence and a permanent space for NEW INC, the museum’s cultural incubator. At ground level, visitors will find an enlarged lobby, a larger bookstore, and a full-service restaurant operated by the Oberon Group.
