Media Release, Xcel Energy

AMARILLO, Texas — As of 8:45 p.m. CT, Xcel Energy crews have restored power for about 11,700 customers affected by Tuesday’s Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) and additional
weather-related outages. Crews continue working to restore the remaining customers, with some repairs expected to extend into Wednesday. Before power can be safely restored, crews must visually inspect lines and make any necessary repairs.

Critical wildfire weather on Tuesday, including extremely high winds, led Xcel Energy to implement a PSPS for customers in Carson, Deaf Smith, Donley, Gray, Hansford, Hartley, Hutchinson, Moore, Oldham, Potter, Randall, Roberts, Sherman and Swisher counties. The severe conditions also caused additional outages for customers outside the PSPS areas.

More than 400 Xcel Energy employees and contract crews are working to restore power as safely and quickly as possible. Helicopters and drones are being used where conditions allow for aerial inspections. High winds are expected to continue Wednesday, but crews will remain in the field until all customers are back on.

“Crews worked through the dry and dusty conditions today and well into the night to restore power, and they’ll continue to fight some higher winds into tomorrow,” said Casey Meeks, Xcel Energy regional vice president of distribution operations. “We know how challenging the dry, windy weather has been for our communities. The safety of our customers and our crews is always our top priority, and we appreciate everyone’s patience and support.”
