In 2025, David Whitlow was among the youngest wide receivers coaches anywhere in Football Bowls Subdivision as he helped Jerry Mack’s first-year Kennesaw State Owls program to a conference championship.
In 2026, Whitlow is poised for a return to the Southeastern Conference — where he’s previously served on staffs at both Auburn and Ole Miss.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Whitlow is departing Mack’s title-winning program to join Kirby Smart’s juggernaut Georgia Bulldogs program.
Whitlow, a former quarterback who ultimately played on both sides of the ball during his career at Alabama State, is expected to join Georgia’s offensive staff and work with the quarterbacks in an assistant quarterbacks coach type of role.
He’s set to develop in the role under long-time Georgia offensive coordinator, ex-Bulldogs quarterback and former Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo, as well as Brandon Streeter, the former Clemson quarterback and offensive coordinator.Â
This past season at Kennesaw State, Whitlow tutored multiple wideouts who earned All-Conference USA honors. Senior wideout Gabriel Benyard was a first-team all-conference selection after he amassed more than 900 receiving yards, nine receiving touchdowns and one rushing touchdown.Â
But Whitlow’s work wasn’t finished with Benyard. Rookie Clayton Coppock was honored as an All-Conference USA Freshman selection. The Atlanta native Coppock hauled in 28 passes for 331 yards and five touchdowns; he also rushed for a touchdown in Kennesaw’s game against Liberty.
Prior to his year at Kennesaw State, Whitlow was a top assistant at West Georgia, where he worked under then-West Georgia offensive coordinator Dane Stevens — now also on staff at LSU as the quarterbacks coach.
In his prior SEC experience, Whitlow helped coach wideouts at Ole Miss while during his Auburn stint he grew to work with the wide receivers after he initially assisted with the Tigers’ strength and conditioning program.
Georgia enters the 2026 season on the heels of its second-straight Southeastern Conference Championship under Smart, the former Bulldogs defensive back who’s guided his alma mater to a pair of national championships this decade. The Bulldogs open their 2026 season at home Sept. 5 against Football Championship Subdivision program Tennessee State before hosting Western Kentucky the following week.
SEC play for Georgia begins on the road Sept. 19 at Arkansas, a program entering its first year with former Memphis head coach Ryan Silverfield now at the helm.
The Bulldogs’ first SEC home game rounds out the season’s opening month when Oklahoma visits Sanford Stadium on Sept. 26.Â
