HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – An award-winning Hawaii architect, whose designs helped shape Hawaii’s modern landscape, has died.
Francis S. Oda died Saturday, Feb. 14, surrounded by family.
Oda helped found the design firm G70 in 1971, and received over 50 awards for his architectural work, which includes the Four Seasons Lodge at Koele, the Four Seasons Manele Bay Hotel, Hanauma Bay Nature Center and the Nanea Golf Clubhouse.
Francis was also instrumental in envisioning major master plans and design guidelines for the City of Kapolei, University of Hawaii Long Range Development Program, Kanu o ka Aina and Kamehameha Schools Kaiaulu o Kakaako Masterplan.
He also worked on projects in French Polynesia, Mauritius, and British Columbia, Canada, and won the American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Our Divine Savior Church in Chico, California.
Oda earned a Bachelor’s in Architecture at Cornell University and a Doctor of Architecture from the University of Hawaii. He later served as an adjunct associate professor and helped develop the university’s Doctor of Architecture program.
Linda Miki, CEO of G70, said, “He was a mentor, spiritual father and source of inspiration for everyone who had the privilege of working with him.”
Oda was also a senior pastor and board chair of New Life Church Honolulu.
A celebration of life will take place at First Assembly of God – Red Hill, Moanalua on Saturday, April 25.
