La Liga president Javier Tebas has given a new interview where he’s been asked about Barcelona’s failure to land Nico Williams this summer.

Tebas has been accused of meddling in the transfer – by sharing confidential information with Athletic – in a move which led to Williams’ agent asking for a registration guarantee.

Barcelona refused his request which is believed to be the reason why the deal broke down.

Here’s what Tebas has had to say about the saga:

“What I’ve been able to read is that Nico Williams was asking for a registration guarantee, I don’t know what conditions, but that a football club like Barcelona wasn’t willing to give that guarantee,” he told ESPN.

“I think Barcelona are in a similar situation to what happened in previous seasons, where they were signing players and waiting until the last minute. That’s something that can make some great players prefer not to take risks and enter an uncertain situation.”

Barcelona have since moving on to other targets, with Marcus Rashford and Luis Diaz still believed to be on the club’s agenda.
