Kate, who shares Lila with her former partner Jefferson Hack, has long been known for setting trends rather than following them. In a recent appearance on Bella Freud’s Fashion Neurosis podcast, she revealed her distaste for fashion fads. She said, “I hate fashion codes. I hate like, ‘Oh, this bag’s in fashion, so everybody designs the same bag.’”
“Like I walked through the airport the other day, and in every shop was the same shoe and the same bag from like every designer. I was like. ‘What is the point in doing that?’ It’s not fun when it’s fashionable …Trends are awful. [As soon as it’s a trend] you can’t wear it anymore.”

Reflecting on the modelling industry’s evolution since her 1990s heyday, Kate also noted how much more preparation modern shows require. She said: “Now they have one look and they have like five hours of hair and make-up.” Recalling a recent show, she walked with Lila, Kate said: “I was like… what are they doing to her?”
