Another week, another edition of STCOT. We’re inching our way closer and closer to springtime, so that’s a good thing. And thankfully we’ve got some new metal to help us get through the dregs of winter.
Abstracted
Hiraeth (M-Theory Audio)
Brazilian progressive death metal. That’s a combination of words I don’t think I’ve ever written before, but that’s because as far as my Brazilian metal goes, it’s Sepultura, Angra, and that’s it. It’s a good thing that this outfit exists, because it’s groovy as hell at times, keeps the listener guessing, and really grips you from the start. Definitely check this out if you too have never heard of Abstracted.
Dissentience
Kaiju (Self-Released)
Keeping the progressive death/thrash metal theme going, this Pennsylvania-based band rip through this EP. They’ve only got four songs on offer in this one, but those four songs will leave you wanting to start the whole thing over when you’re done.
Exhumed

We all should know the gory, brutal tendencies of deathgrind masters Exhumed. Once again, these guys go heavy on the meaty, bloody bits of their death metal tendencies, offering a nasty new listen for new and old fans alike.
Sylosis
The New Flesh (Nuclear Blast)
Album number seven for this English melodic death metal band continues their growth as a unit. These guys continue to absolutely tear shit up on their guitars while still managing to offer up some massive choruses that will surely get the crowds singing along at live shows.
Worm Shepherd
Dawn Of The Iconoclast (Unique Leader Records)
You want heavy? You want dark? What about dismal? Because you can get all three in this EP from this Massachusetts-based blackened deathcore act. They only need five songs to blow your head back out your ass.
