The land near Clarks Hill Lake is owned by the federal government but managed by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

The state agency worked with the Wilkes County Sheriff’s Office to identify them as belonging to a nearby land owner. The owner was working to retrieve them Friday afternoon.
Although there are a few wild bison herds in the West, most buffalo are part of commercial herds on private land.
