If you have to use an ice pack in order to cool down, then it’s too hot to play golf.
Call me a wimp, but warm weather conditions have a limit, and the temperatures the LPGA and its players will endure in Thailand this week are definitely teetering above just steamy. The Tour kicked off its first event of the spring Asia swing this week, and it’s sweltering. During Thursday’s opening round, temperatures peaked at around 92 degrees, with a heat index of 100 degrees.
And players were getting creative with all the ways they were staying cool. From ice packs to umbrellas, any semblance of shade was welcomed.

But the weather isn’t the only thing heating up. The leaderboard is already jam-packed with some big names. Chanettee Wannasaen, one of the co-leaders sitting at 7-under, who is also a Thai native said, “It’s always hot. Always same weather. But like you know [here], Honda, there is a lot of fans and spectators, and today is a lot of spectators.”
The tournament headliner, world No. 1 Jeeno Thitikul is also playing a home game this week and is sitting just two shots behind the leaders tied at 5-under with nine other players.
