In case you’ve somehow missed it, Sony made the decision yesterday to close Bluepoint Games, the studio behind incredibly well-received remakes like Shadow of the Colossus and PS5’s standout launch title, Demon’s Souls.
It’s caused a huge upset, with fans baffled that the studio didn’t get to release a single game following its acquisition in 2021.
While many couldn’t understand why Bluepoint wasn’t leading the charge on the recently announced God of War Trilogy Remake, there was some hope among Bloodborne fans that it had been put to work on a remake of the fan favourite PS4 exclusive. It seems that’s not the case either.
The whole situation has brought to light another case of Sony litigating against a Bloodborne-related fan project.
In response to Bluepoint’s closure, Maxime Foulquier has revealed a cease-and-desist letter from Sony’s IP lawyers, requesting he stop building his top-down take on Bloodborne. Here’s what it looked like:
HUNTERS! I haven’t touched Bloodborne Remake for a year for 50 reasons (too big, too risky to finally be C&D).
But last week I decided to start a new project from scratch, Bloodborne Top Down Arena
Maybe you won’t like it, but I’m enjoying developing it and playing it 😂 pic.twitter.com/OPont0sS45

And here’s the letter:
With the closure of Bluepoint Studio, now feels like the right time to share something.
Sony sent me a cease and desist letter regarding my second Bloodborne remake project that I posted about in November 2024.
I was incredibly excited about this project and worked on it a lot… pic.twitter.com/E1U12fxaWK

Foulquier rationalised Sony’s action by concluding that Bluepoint may be developing a Bloodborne remake itself, hence the hammer coming down on fan projects like his.
Now, we should say, Sony is perfectly within its right to do this, especially as Foulquier’s game used the Bloodborne name. Additionally, Bluepoint’s closure doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t a Bloodborne remake in the pipeline.
That being said, this whole debacle has left fans rattled, and Bloodborne fans somehow even more frustrated than they already were.
Bit of a mess, all this, isn’t it?
