Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy poses with his wife Erica Stoll as he celebrates with his trophy at the end the 2025 DP World Tour Championship.
It was quite a year for Rory McIlroy and the star credits his wife Erica Stoll for his recent success. Back in December 2025, McIlroy was named the BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
While McIlroy’s wife was not in attendance for the award show, the star golfer labeled Stoll and the couple’s daughter Poppy as “my rock.”
“My wife Erica, my daughter Poppy. They’re what holds me together, they’re my rock,” McIlroy said after winning the award, per The Sun.
“They couldn’t be here tonight, they are back in America, but I can’t wait to get back to see them tomorrow and celebrate with them. I can’t wait to see you, I love you.”
The couple’s ups and downs have been well documented, but it appears McIlroy and Stoll are thriving heading into 2026.

Rory McIlroy Admitted to Binge Watching the Hit Show ‘Bridgerton’ With Wife Erica Stoll Ahead of His Masters Win
McIlroy credits his wife for helping him lower his stress level. Does the show “Bridgerton” also deserve credit for helping McIlroy win the elusive green jacket?
Ahead of his Masters win in 2025, McIlroy revealed that Stoll helped him get into watching “Bridgerton” as a way to relax.
“I’ve gotten into ‘Bridgerton’ – I didn’t think I would,” McIlroy noted in April 2025, via the Irish Star. “I was very against watching it, but Erica convinced me. So we’re on a bit of a ‘Bridgerton’ kick this week, yeah.”
News broke in May 2024 that the couple had filed for divorce. Just one month later, McIlroy released a statement revealing that the couple had “resolved our differences” and called off the divorce.
Since the news, Stoll has been spotted supporting McIlroy at many of the PGA Tour major tournaments, including during the star’s Masters win.
Rory McIlroy & Wife Erica Stoll Were Both Subjected to Ugly Behavior From Fans During the 2025 Ryder Cup
Things turned ugly for McIlroy’s family during the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage. McIlroy and Stoll were subjected to unsavory remarks from patrons at the event.
A viral video showed one fan throwing a beer that hit McIlroy’s wife during the tournament. Prior to things getting testy, McIlroy praised the United States, celebrating both his Irish and American roots.
“Everyone wanted to make it in America,” McIlroy explained to reporters on September 25, 2025. “It’s the land of opportunity. And I still believe it’s the best country in the world, and if you come here and work hard and dedicate yourself, you can be or do whatever you want.
“I am unbelievably grateful and lucky that I got to come to America early on. I think success is celebrated here. I think there’s a wonderful sense of work ethic. And yeah, I live here. My wife is American. My daughter is American,” McIlroy continued.
“I have a lot of affinity towards this country, and I think everyone that lives here should have that same affinity because it is, it’s a wonderful — it is a wonderful place.”
