Manchester United have snapped up Bryan Mbeumo, but remain interested in adding more attacking options to Ruben Amorim’s squad.

It took a while, but Manchester United finally confirmed Bryan Mbeumo’s arrival last week.

Weeks of haggling resulted in United finally landing the Cameroonian forward, with Mbeumo taking the number 19 shirt at Old Trafford.

Mbeumo didn’t feature against West Ham United over the weekend, but his first United appearance shouldn’t be too far away.

The focus will now turn to other attacking additions, with a new striker believed to be a target before the summer window closes.

United are chasing Benjamin Sesko while Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is also on the Old Trafford radar, so expect to see a striker arrive in the coming weeks.

The two strikers are very different.

Watkins is a proven Premier League goalscorer, racking up 75 goals in 184 top-flight appearances for Villa.

The England international turns 30 later this year, whereas Sesko only recently turned 22.

Sesko is more of a rough diamond, though scoring 39 goals in 87 games for RB Leipzig is a pretty impressive record at this stage in his development.

The potential is scary with Sesko, but how many times have United fans heard about potential?

Rasmus Hojlund showed real promise at Atalanta, sparking a big-money move to United in 2023.

Two years on, Hojlund has lost the confidence of United fans, with supporters already thinking about the next striking addition.

Joshua Zirkzee was another project signing, a talented attacker who possesses all the skill in the world, but has never really been all that prolific.

Zirkzee’s first season at United saw him struggle for goals and he actually looked more impressive as a number 10 than as a striker.

Even going back to Anthony Martial’s arrival in 2015, we have heard so much about United bringing in potential in attack.

Rio Ferdinand has touched on United’s striking need, believing that more experience is needed in attack, rather than another project.

You can hardly blame United fans for potentially wanting more of a sure-fire impact in front of goal from any new striker, which Watkins can supply.

Sesko is more of a proven goalscorer than Hojlund or Zirkzee were upon their arrivals, both at club and international level.

Sesko still has a long way to go, though, and United would be signing him in the hopes of developing him into a star, rather than bringing him in as the finished product.

The Slovenian hitman is exciting, but we have heard this all before, and Ineos would be taking a leap of faith by bringing another young forward to Old Trafford.

Bundesliga fear will be prominent with Benjamin Sesko

Sesko is as physically impressive as they come, possessing blazing speed despite his 6ft 5in frame.

Comparisons to Erling Haaland have been made, especially as both players were wonderkids at Red Bull Salzburg.

It isn’t even just the notion of signing another striker based on potential that will concern United fans, but also that he would arrive from the Bundesliga.

Go through United’s history, and players arriving from the Bundesliga have not exactly impressed at Old Trafford.

Jadon Sancho has been a major flop, Shinji Kagawa never lived up to his billing, Bastian Schweinsteiger ended up being frozen out, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan dazzled for Dortmund but couldn’t make an impact for United.

This has been seen across the Premier League as well, with the likes of Timo Werner, Christopher Nkunku, Naby Keita and Sebastien Haller struggling in the Premier League in recent times after excelling in Germany.

Sesko is almost a double risk to being a ‘potential’ signing from the Bundesliga, and we can’t blame any United fan for preferring the safer option in Watkins, even if he may be a relatively short-term addition.
