GLENBURN, Maine — The Glenburn Fire Department and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded to an oil spill on Pushaw Lake near Lakeside Landing.

The fire department said it first became aware of the incident through social media. The Maine DEP has since conducted a site evaluation of the spill.

Officials said environmental spills can be complex, especially during winter conditions that include freezing temperatures, ice, and snowfall.

Pushaw Lake is a key natural resource for the community, and officials said early notification of spills or other environmental concerns is critical to ensuring a timely response and protecting water quality, wildlife, shoreline areas and recreational access.

Officials urge residents who observe a spill or environmental hazard to report it promptly. The Glenburn Fire Department can be reached on its non-emergency line at 207-942-6118. Emergencies should be reported by calling 911.
