Crews are responding after a massive two-alarm fire broke out at a home in Watertown, Massachusetts. The fire started at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at a home on Flint Road.According to Watertown Fire Chief Ryan Nicholson, two residents called 911 after smoke alarms went off and fire was spotted on the third floor. All residents were able to make it out of the home safely. Video from the scene showed firefighters hastily trying to shovel out nearby fire hydrants, which were covered in heavy snow and ice.The process slowed fire crews’ response in extinguishing the fire.”We do ask the residents to help out where they can,” Nicholson said. “For the next week, we’re shoveling the hydrants ourselves. It’s a big task to undertake, but when we have help, it makes it efficient. Water is important.” Video from the scene also showed fire and thick black smoke shooting out of the home’s attic window and the roof. The fire came just one day after a massive blizzard brought 14 inches of snow to the city along with powerful wind gusts. Despite sunny skies, temperatures in most of Massachusetts, including Watertown, did not reach above freezing on Tuesday, also making efforts to extinguish the blaze difficult. No one was injured in the fire.Nicholson said the second and third floors of the building were most likely a total loss.
