Now that the 2026 Winter Olympics are over, many people are prying into the personal lives of Olympic gold medalists. For figure skaters Ilia Malinin and Amber Glenn, it’s no exception.
The two figure skaters competed together in the team event for Team USA. Even before the Olympics, the two had an incredibly close bond in and out of the rink alongside Alysa Liu. After Amber Glenn’s disappointing loss, Ilia Malinin gave her some sage advice after his own faulty performance. “I’ve told her that, you know, this is something that we all go through,” he says. “It’s, you know, it’s not always a pleasant feeling, but it’s something that we need to embrace and we have to move on from no matter what, because no matter what happens, we always have to get up and go do it again.”

During the Olympics, a video of Ilia dancing in the club with a blonde girl went viral on TikTok. Some people speculated that it was Amber Glenn due to the similarities.

MILAN, ITALY – FEBRUARY 21: (L-R) Alysa Liu, Ilia Malinin and Amber Glenn of Team United States perform in the Figure Skating Exhibition Gala on day fifteen of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic games at Milano Ice Skating Arena on February 21, 2026 in Milan, Italy. (
Ilia Malinin is not dating Amber Glenn. The 26-year-old figure skater cleared her name in the comments of the TikTok. “AYO PEOPLE THAT’S NOT ME,” Glenn wrote in the comments section of the video. “IM LITERALLY MID COMPETITION.”
Malinin has been open about how every athlete has been supportive of him ever since he placed eighth in the men’s free skate. “So many different athletes, you know, friends, teammates, even just randoms too. They’re all there for me,” he says. “And even people outside from the village. Just so much love, so much support and just such an honor.”
Right before the 2026 Winter Olympics, Malinin emphasized that he’s not focusing on relationships. In an interview with People, he said, “I want to put my priorities into my career first and just see where that takes me.”
In 2023, Ilia Malinin was under fire for answering a question about his sexuality. In an Instagram Live, a fan asked, “Are you straight?” Malanin replied, “Bro, you know, let’s be honest, I can’t be straight anymore because I need those (artistic) component scores up, you know. I gotta say that I’m not straight, that way my components are gonna go up.”
He later apologized for the comments on Twitter (now known as X): “I want to truly apologize to everyone for my ‘teenage’ behavior and I am aware that this mistake can’t really be undone. … I hope that everyone understands I mean no hate to anyone. Thank you all for understanding this mistake and making it known to me that I made a mistake.”
Amber Glenn is the first openly LGBTQ+ member of USA’s Figure Skating team. She identifies as pansexual and bisexual and talked about her experience coming out as an athlete. “The fear of not being accepted is a huge struggle for me,” Glenn told NBC 5 Dallas Fort Worth. “Being perceived as ‘just a phase’ or ‘indecisive’ is a common thing for bisexual/pansexual women. I don’t want to shove my sexuality in people’s faces, but I also don’t want to hide who I am.”
