Coronation Street spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (27 February), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Coronation Street has confirmed who attacked Bernie Winter-Alahan’s stalker Mal Roper – with a shocking confession scene. While Bernie is the first major suspect in the case, it turns out that someone close to her was trying to protect her.
In Friday’s episode, Bernie faces a difficult interview down at the police station, where she comes under pressure over her history with Mal and why she threatened him shortly before the attack.
Bernie tells DC Browning that she met Mal a few weeks ago, when he invited her up to his room at the Chariot Square Hotel. Mal has harassed her ever since, giving her a clear motive for the attack, but she firmly denies using violence to solve the problem.
Meanwhile, Bernie’s son Kit Green seems troubled as he approaches his partner Sarah Platt to share a secret he’s been keeping…

Confirming that he was to blame rather than Bernie, guilty Kit explains: “I didn’t kick him or hit him or anything like that. I grabbed him, gave him a shove and warned him off.
“He’s had a heart attack – he would have had one anyway. I thought it’d blow over, but Bernie doesn’t have an alibi.”
When Sarah encourages Kit to tell his police colleagues the truth if the incident really was as minor as he claims, he replies: “I’d end up losing my job. We’ve just got to ride it out.”
Kit is relieved when Bernie is released without charge, leaving him hopeful that the allegations against her will disappear without him needing to set the record straight.

However, when Kit’s co-worker Lisa Swain announces that she’s being taken off desk duties following the Becky Swain investigation, he realises he’ll have to tread carefully.
“Aren’t you the least bit curious to find out who’s attacked the guy who’s been harassing your mum?” Lisa asks, puzzled that Kit isn’t pushing for firm answers in the investigation.
Vowing to take a personal interest in the mystery, she adds: “I need to get back to doing what I did best – catching the bad guys…”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
