Manchester United fans dropped their immediate reactions to Rasmus Hojlund’s display against Bournemouth in the pre-season friendly match on Thursday.

The Red Devils travelled to the Soldier Field and Manchester United faced Bournemouth in their second Premier League Summer Series match of the pre-season tour.

United came out on top against Bournemouth and Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim oversaw a stunning 4-1 win from the Premier League club in Chicago.

The Red Devils made a strong start and immediate impact at the Soldier Field after Rasmus Hojlund turned in a header in the eighth minute from a Patrick Dorgu cross.

Patrick Dorgu then put United 2-0 up in the 25th minute against the Cherries and the Red Devils took their advantage over Bournemouth into the break.

United would extend their lead over Bournemouth in the second half after Amad Diallo netted in the 53rd minute before Ethan Williams found the back of the net.

Bournemouth did manage to pull one back against Manchester United in the 88th minute after Matthijs de Ligt put the ball in the back of his own net in the tie.

However, Ruben Amorim and his men walked away from their Premier League Summer Series match with their heads held high after their 4-1 win in Illinois.

United fans on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, waxed lyrical about the showing from Rasmus Hojlund in the pre-season friendly on Thursday.

One Red Devils supporter said: “Can’t even be annoyed by Hojlund. Nobody. Because nearly every ball [he has been] stuck [in]. Nearly every duel was won.”

Another United fan wrote: “Hojlund has been one of the best players on the pitch, right from hold-up play, getting a goal on top is good for him. His confidence is top.”

Someone else argued: “I really like how Rasmus Hojlund has played this [match]. He has been a handful for the defenders unlike last season when he was just wrestling defenders. He has been quite clever and got around really well. I wouldn’t mind keeping him for one more season as Manchester United need to prioritise a [defensive midfielder] first.”

While a fourth added: “I’ve said it all summer and it’s been cemented tonight for me. Hojlund should stay and be given some time to grow. Now, I believe someone should be brought in to take pressure off him. But whether it be growing into a top striker or just providing depth, Hojlund should stay.”

A fifth X user tweeted: “What are they feeding Hojlund this season? And why didn’t they feed it to him last season? [Because] wow!”

“Hojlund has impressed so far this pre-season; needs to keep it up if he stays,” somebody else posted.

And a seventh suggested: “This Hojlund masterclass is proof that [the] striker is not the problem. It [is the] chance creation that is.”

An eighth argued: “Rasmus Hojlund has played really well. Hold-up and link-up play massively improved. He’s getting amongst it as well with these centre-backs.”

Rasmus Hojlund is fighting for his place at Man Utd and the display vs Bournemouth shows that he shouldn’t be written off

Hojlund made way in the 71st minute of Thursday’s 4-1 win vs Bournemouth after United manager Amorim pulled him off and replaced him with defender Diego Leon.

The 22-year-old Danish forward struggled in his second full season at Old Trafford and Hojlund’s future at United has been plunged into uncertainty in recent months.

United and Denmark striker Hojlund has attracted interest from several clubs in Italy this summer, including the likes of Inter Milan, Roma and AC Milan.

But the former Atalanta man is keen to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the United starting XI, with Hojlund impressing so far on the pre-season tour.
