Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was questioned about signing Benjamin Sesko after the dominant pre-season victory over Bournemouth.

Transfer news this week has been dominated by stories that Manchester United have opened talks with Benjamin Sesko over a possible summer move.

Sesko is expected to cost around £64m this summer, and Ineos are pushing ahead with their efforts to sign the 22-year-old RB Leipzig striker.

United’s search for a striker was initially narrowed down to either Benjamin Sesko or Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, but it seems Ineos have sided with Christopher Vivell and will target the Slovenian.

The Red Devils maintained their unbeaten record in pre-season this summer with an emphatic 4-1 win over Bournemouth in the early hours of Thursday morning.

New signings Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both missed out and watched on from the bench as United put on a brilliant performance.

After the victory, Ruben Amorim was directly asked about the transfer links to Sesko but the United boss didn’t give much away.

“The important thing is Rasmus is scoring goals. I don’t know what will happen until the market is closed,” Amorim admitted.

Hojlund starred against Bournemouth, opening the scoring with a well-guided header. There have been whispers of the 22-year-old potentially being involved in a swap deal for Sesko, but Amorim made it clear that he is very happy with the Dane.

Benjamin Sesko and Rasmus Hojlund can push each other

After facing heavy criticism last season, Hojlund looks determined to prove his doubters wrong this summer.

His link-up play vastly improved against Bournemouth, and his goal will only boost his confidence heading into the new campaign.

If Ineos push ahead with a deal to sign Sesko, he will arrive in Manchester with the same age and profile as Hojlund.

Signing Sesko would be a risk for United, but just like Hojlund, he has massive potential. Hojlund lacked competition last season and ended up being overused as Amorim’s only real option up front.

But Sesko and Hojlund together could compete and push each other to fulfil their exciting potential. Ineos might want to hold off on a potential swap deal.
