TOPEKA (KSNT) – Circle Coffee reopened just hours after an early morning break-in on Feb. 28, determined to keep serving the community.

Circle Coffee’s front door glass was smashed in before employees arrived for work. When bakers came in to work on the morning of Feb. 28, they found the damage and discovered a small amount of cash missing from the register.

Owner David Vincent said his first reaction was stress, knowing it was “going to be an inconvenience to fix.”

“I think anybody who’s been like broken into can relate to… It’s a little bit violating. You know, it’s like, this is our space,” Vincent said.

Despite the damage and missing cash, the shop didn’t stay closed for long. Vincent told 27 News that his employees are used to overcoming obstacles, and nothing will stand in the way of serving the community.

“We’re kind of just accustomed to overcoming little challenges and making things work and still being here for our guests. And so, there wasn’t really a question, like we knew we were going to be open, we just had to get stuff cleaned out and then make sure that we were ready to go by 7 a.m.”

The damaged door has since been boarded up, but customers were still welcomed in for their morning coffee.

Vincent said he’s thankful this is the first incident like this in the three and a half years the shop has been open. He added that break-ins happen everywhere and doesn’t believe that crime like this reflects the city.
