State police say a crash on the Capital Beltway appears to have triggered a Sunday afternoon stabbing that left a woman and her dog dead and three others injured before a trooper fatally shot the knife-wielding man.

Authorities on Monday morning identified the suspect as 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean. State police identified the woman killed in the stabbing as 39-year-old Michelle Adams and the injured victims as 36-year-old Dana Bonnell, 37-year-old Mary C. Flood and 40-year-old Heather Miller. All were hospitalized with serious injuries.

A state trooper was called to Exit 52 on Interstate 495 southbound in Annandale at 1:17 p.m. Sunday for a reported road rage incident. “When the trooper arrived, he was confronted by Llamado carrying a knife,” state police spokesman Matthew Demlein said in a news release.

“The trooper then shot the suspect in self-defense,” Demlein said. Llamado was taken to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The incident is not believed to be terrorism related, Demlein said.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the stabbings followed a crash on Interstate 495 southbound,” he said “The crash remains under investigation.”

The trooper involved in the incident is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, Demlein said.
