A new book from former Vice President Kamala Harris will offer a “behind-the-scenes” look at her abbreviated campaign for the presidency last year and how she navigated the race against Donald Trump after President Joe Biden’s late decision to abandon his reelection bid.
“What the world saw on the campaign trail was only part of the story,” Harris said in a post on social media Thursday.
The book, “107 Days,” draws its title from the length of the shortest presidential campaign in modern history.
Biden dropped out of the race on July 21 of last year, and endorsed Harris as his replacement. That kicked off a three-and-a-half-month sprint for the White House that ended with her defeat on Nov. 5.
The book is due Sept. 23.
Its announcement comes a day after Harris said she would not run for governor in her home state of California next year, leaving open the possibility of another presidential run in 2028.
The campaign was “intense, high-stakes and deeply personal — for me and for so many of you,” Harris said in a video accompanying her book announcement. “Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days, talking with my team, my family, my friends, and pulling my thoughts together. In essence, writing a journal that is this book.”
“I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned and what I know it will take to move forward,” she said.
