When most of us think of livestock guardians, we picture a Great Pyrenees or an Anatolian Shepherd. But at Just One More Farm, their beloved guardian is not what you might expect: a pig named Possum.
In 2024, Possum took it upon himself to start herding the flock of sheep back and forth to pasture each day. In the fall of that year, trespassing dogs attacked the sheep. Possum rushed the flock to safety before turning back to confront the dogs and keep them away. He was badly injured in the process, losing an ear and needing months to recover. Now, Possum is fully recovered, and the herd that he protects has really grown, as you’ll see in this heartwarming video.
The farm included more about Possum in the video’s caption. “It’s been a while, but we’ve changed some things around here! Possum, the pig, has eight other kinds of animals living with him now, and these days, he’s a pretty happy guy. We finally feel like we can close the book on this chapter of the farm. Here’s the extended version of Possum’s new crew.”
We love Possum’s story and understand why he’s cherished on Just One More Farm! He seems to be one of those one-in-a-million pets who everyone hopes will get at least once in their lives.
