Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Emmet Sheehan struggled in his first spring training appearance of the year Wednesday.
Sheehan pitched 1.1 innings in the outing and allowed one earned run, leaving the game with the bases loaded in the fifth inning.

The right-hander came into the game in the fourth inning, and retired three in a row after giving up a leadoff single. Team Mexico led off the fifth inning with a baserunner as well after first baseman Jonathan Aranda drew a four-pitch walk, and Alejandro Kirk followed it up with a single.
After forcing a lineout from Joey Meneses, Nacho Alvarez Jr. recorded his third hit of the day and drove in a run to tie the game at four. Sheehan walked the following batter to load the bases, and left the game.
Carlos Duran got a double play out of Joey Ortiz directly after coming into the game, ending the inning and keeping Sheehan’s earned run total at one.

What Role Will Emmet Sheehan Play in the 2026 Season?
Sheehan is one of the pitchers most likely to fill a spot in the rotation, especially with all of the injury uncertainty in the Dodgers’ ranks.

Blake Snell likely won’t be available for the Dodgers on Opening Day, and Gavin Stone also suffered a setback as he looks to return to the mound in the 2026 season.
This leaves the Dodgers without some of their top options for the rotation, leaving the door open for Sheehan to maintain his spot towards the back end of the rotation.
How Did Emmet Sheehan Perform in 2025?
Sheehan returned from Tommy John surgery midway through the 2025 season, and was very impressive towards the end of the regular season.
He had a 1.42 ERA in September, and managed a 3.52 ERA in August. Despite his impressive results at the end of the season, he transitioned intro a bullpen role during the postseason and struggled. Through six appearances, Sheehan allowed seven earned run for an 8.59 ERA.
Sheehan has all spring to ramp back up to speed, and will look to do so in his next Cactus League performance, whenever it may be.
