45-year-old Venus Williams’s legendary career will continue on the second day of the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells when she faces Diane Parry. There are 16 WTA matches on the slate for Day 2. We here at LWOT Predict all the action, including Peyton Stearns vs Solana Sierra and Peyton Stearns vs Solana Sierra, in our articles.
WTA Indian Wells Day 2 Predictions
Sonay Kartal vs Lanlana Tararudee
Head-to-head: First meeting
Neither woman strikes the ball with overwhelming force. The slow conditions in Indian Wells mean this could be a very lengthy match. Although Kartal’s season so far has been mixed, I trust the Briton more to come through a long battle where mental and physical resilience could be crucial.
Prediction: Kartal in 3
Anna Bondar vs Elsa Jacquemot
Head-to-head: Bondar 1-0 Jacquemot
This is another matchup that could be drawn out. Jacquemot is the more naturally aggressive of these people, but the Frenchwoman does not blow opponents off the court with her groundstrokes. Bondar often performs well on slow hard courts because she does not mind absorbing pressure and being patient. She is backed to triumph for that reason.
Prediction: Bondar in 3
Varvara Gracheva vs Lilli Tagger
Head-to-head: First meeting
These two have played well since the Australian Open. 18-year-old Tagger reached the final of a WTA 125K event in Mumbai, while Gracheva won seven matches in Doha and Dubai (including qualifying). Gracheva’s flat shots are suited to making Tagger’s one-handed backhand, often a strength, into more of a liability. I think she will beat the teenager by applying constant pressure in the rallies.
Prediction: Gracheva in 2
Venus Williams vs Diane Parry
Head-to-head: First meeting
Seven-time Grand Slam champion Williams deserves immense credit for continuing to compete well at 45. However, she has also lost her last seven singles matches. The home favorite usually has moments in matches, but she can only win by being more consistent. I do not think her losing run will end against Parry, who was superb in her 6-3 6-2 qualifying victory over Lulu Sun. The Frenchwoman’s slice, which stays very low, will be particularly useful against Williams.
Prediction: Parry in 2
