A pedestrian was hit and killed early Friday morning on William Penn Highway in Wilkins Township, prompting an investigation into a suspected hit-and-run.

Police were called to the scene around 4:45 a.m. after a body was found lying in the roadway. First responders arrived to find a man dead at the scene. The east and westbound lanes of William Penn Highway, from Kingston Drive to a nearby AutoZone, were closed for several hours, affecting local traffic.
