More superb WTA Indian Wells matches are scheduled for Day 4. This year’s Australian Open champion, Elena Rybakina, Jelena Ostapenko, Emma Navarro, and Karolina Muchova will be among those stepping onto the court. All other action, including Madison Keys vs. Diane Parry, Jessica Pegula vs Donna Vekic, and Mirra Andreeva vs Solana Sierra, is covered in our other articles.
WTA Indian Wells Day 4 Predictions
Karolina Muchova vs Anna Bondar
Head-to-head: First meeting
Bondar only has a chance if Muchova performs significantly below her best. The Hungarian is a fighter, but she does not do anything better than the 2023 French Open runner-up. Expect Muchova to progress pretty comfortably in her first match since winning the Qatar Open.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
Jelena Ostapenko vs Katie Volynets
Head-to-head: First meeting
The clash in styles here could not be more evident. Ostapenko’s is among the most aggressive players in WTA history, while Volynets bases her game on grit and doggedness. The slow conditions in Indian Wells give the Californian a chance to defend well at her home tournament. However, her serve will be very vulnerable, and I feel that will likely prove decisive.
Prediction: Ostapenko in 2
Emma Navarro vs Sonay Kartal
Head-to-head: Navarro 2-0 Kartal
There will undoubtedly be many lengthy exchanges between two excellent movers who do not strike the ball with overwhelming force. Navarro is not usually the aggressor in her matches, but she stepped into that role in the two previous meetings with Kartal. The American’s patchy form and the slow conditions could make this a lengthy battle. Overall, I think Navarro will get over the line.
Prediction: Navarro in 3
Elena Rybakina vs Hailey Baptiste
Head-to-head: Rybakina 1-0 Baptiste
Against most opponents, a slow hard-court would suit Baptiste. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, Rybakina often thrives most when she has time on her groundstrokes. Baptiste will have a better chance of returning Rybakina’s massive serve because of the sluggish conditions, but that is unlikely to compensate for Rybakina’s superiority in the rallies.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
