The New England Patriots are re-signing backup quarterback Tommy DeVito to a two-year deal worth up to $7.4 million, according to a league source.

The move gives the Patriots plenty of experience behind starting quarterback Drake Maye, who finished second in NFL MVP voting last season.

DeVito, 27, spent last season with the Patriots and served as the team’s emergency third quarterback, but he didn’t appear in any games. He started in six games with the New York Giants in 2023 and two games in 2024.

For now, he’s the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Maye and Joshua Dobbs, though the way Dobbs’ contract is structured, the Patriots could cut him if they need cap space.

In limited time last season, DeVito made a positive impression on the Patriots coaches.

“I think that’s a tough proposition to have, coming in at the end of training camp and trying to get acclimated offensively,” Mike Vrabel said in January. “So to his credit, he’s done a really nice job.”
