When Jayson Tatum swished a corner three late in the second quarter of his return game on Friday night at TD Garden, he did more than send the home crowd into a frenzy.

Tatum also extended a regular-season streak that only trails 3-point king Stephen Curry in its excellence.

As revealed by Celtics reporter Taylor Snow, Tatum has now hit a 3 in 57-straight regular-season games for the Celtics, which is the second-longest active streak in the NBA behind only Curry.

The other names on the list with Tatum are all considered all-time-great 3-point shooters. It makes you start to think differently about Tatum’s consistency from 3 — are we giving it its proper due?

JT finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in his debut, which was limited to 27 minutes of action in a 20-point victory for Boston.

Tatum’s performance was a wildly encouraging display for the basketball world that has been awaiting his return for 10 months.

Tatum’s legs had to shake off rust in the first half as he air-balled his first 3 attempt and came up short on a dunk. But it was just the basketball gods toying with us. Within minutes, Tatum converted on a putback dunk, swished the aforementioned 3, and hit five shots in a row.
