Person who died in plane crash at Los Altos Park identified
WE’RE ALSO FOLLOWING MORE BREAKING NEWS THIS AFTERNOON. A PLANE CRASHED INTO LOS ALTOS GOLF COURSE IN NORTHEAST ALBUQUERQUE. WE FIRST TOLD YOU THIS AS BREAKING NEWS WHEN IT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE NOON. OFFICIALS DO TELL US TWO PEOPLE WERE ON A SMALL PLANE WHEN THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING. REPORTER JASON MCNABB JOINS US NOW FROM THE GOLF COURSE. JASON, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED? WELL, SASHA, THAT’S RIGHT. WE’RE HERE ON COPPER ON THE SOUTH END OF LOS ALTOS GOLF COURSE. I’M GOING TO STEP OUT OF THE WAY HERE SO YOU CAN SEE POSSIBLY THE CLEAREST VIEW OF THAT PLANE WRECKAGE. YOU CAN SEE THAT’S NOT FROM UP IN THE SKY. WE STILL HAVE A LARGE POLICE PRESENCE ON SCENE AS THAT INVESTIGATION IS UNFOLDING. THE FAA HAS CONFIRMED IT’S A COLUMBIA L C 41, A SMALL PLANE, AND NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE SAY IT WAS. IT WAS ATTEMPTING AN EMERGENCY LANDING JUST AFTER 1140 THIS MORNING WHEN IT CRASHED INTO THE GOLF COURSE. THIS REQUIRED 12 UNITS FROM ALBUQUERQUE FIRE RESCUE TO COME HERE ON SCENE, AND FOUND THE PLANE HEAVILY DAMAGED, BUT NOT ON FIRE. THEY SAY THEY PULLED TWO PEOPLE ON BOARD OUT OF THE WRECKAGE, BUT NEW MEXICO STATE POLICE HAS CONFIRMED AT THIS POINT THAT ONE OF THEM HAS DIED. THE OTHER REMAINS IN CRITICAL CONDITION. NOW, THE GOLF COURSE, OF COURSE, IS SURROUNDED HERE BY NEIGHBORHOODS AND APARTMENT COMPLEXES, AND THOSE NEARBY WERE SHOCKED TO HEAR THAT THIS HAPPENED. One person died in a plane crash that happened at Los Altos Park in Albuquerque on Friday morning. New Mexico State Police say a small aircraft attempted to make an emergency landing at Los Altos Golf Course. The plane then crashed while attempting to make the landing. State police say there were two people inside of the plane at the time of the crash. The person who died was identified as Deborah Rhinesmith of Kansas. The name of the other person on the plane, who is in the hospital, has not been released.Albuquerque Fire Rescue officials say two people were stuck inside of the plane. Those two people were then pulled from the wreckage and taken to the hospital. AFR officials say the aircraft did not catch fire during the crash.
