ACCORDING TO THE WALNUT COVE FIRE DEPARTMENT, CREWS RESPONDED TO A CRASH AT THE INTERSECTION OF GRUBBS ROAD AND HIGHWAY 31 ONE AROUND 6 A.M. STILL NO WORD ON WHAT LED TO THE CRASH OR WHAT DEPUTY MITCHELL WAS RESPONDING TO. AND THERE IS A GROWING MEMORIAL FOR DEPUTY MITCHELL OUTSIDE THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE ON NORTH CHURCH STREET, WHERE THE COMMUNITY CAN PAY THEIR RESPECTS. AND TONIGHT, WE’RE HEARING FROM LAWMAKERS FOLLOWING HIS DEATH IN A STATEMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR JOSH STEIN SAYS HE CALLED SHERIFF BOBBY KIMBROUGH AND PLEDGED WHATEVER SUPPORT HIS DEPARTMENT MAY NEED DURING THIS TIME.
