On Saturday, the Florida Gators hosted several big prospects on campus for spring practice, including several out of state prospects.
Tight end George Lamons (6-3, 213, Quitman, GA. Brooks County) was on campus and liked how the Gators practiced on Saturday.
“It was good, good to keep building relationships with Coach McKissack and Coach Sumrall,” Lamons said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I liked practice, I liked how they work as a team. I like how they move the ball and they get after it.”
Lamons watched the tight end group mainly on Saturday, and several things stood out to him about tight ends coach Evan McKissack.
“I feel like he coaches fast,” he said on McKissack’s coaching style. “He’s going to stay on you, tell you what’s real, and he isn’t going to let you slack. I liked watching him coach Amir Jackson and Heze Kent.”
McKissack has built a great relationship with Lamons, and the two talk on a daily basis about everything.
“We talk all the time,” Lamons said. “He always calls me, he calls me before school to make sure I’m able to get in the weight room in the morning before school because I’m taking seven academic classes so I can graduate early. He calls me just like we’re chilling.”
After practice was over, McKissack talked with Lamons about what he likes about his game and how he would fit into the program.
“He likes how I go and take the ball,” he said on what McKissack likes about his game. “He likes how physical I am and my speed.”
Head coach Jon Sumrall also talked with Lamons on Saturday and explained to him that the Gators’ need more players like him on the team.
“He was like it’s good to get you back down here and to make myself at home,” Lamons said on Sumrall’s message to him. “He told me he wants me down here and that he needs more guys like me and stuff like that.”
After the visit, Lamons says he has a leader in his recruitment and it’s because of the relationships he has with the Florida coaches.
“Florida is number one,” he said on where Florida stands for him. “Coach McKissack is always checking on me, and he’s the only one doing that right now with me.”
Several other big programs are in the mix for Lamons as he plans to get back down to Gainesville at least two more times before making a decision on his future.
“Bama, Auburn, Louisville, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and LSU right now,” Lamons said on other schools recruiting him hard. “I’m going to make a decision after my official visits, I’ll be at Florida on May 28th and for the spring game.”
