Dave Portnoy reacts to the Ohio State news

Barstool founder Dave Portnoy interrupted his morning show to announce that Ohio State University President Ted Carter Jr. had resigned following an inappropriate relationship, and did so while wearing a Michigan cap.

Portnoy is an avid Wolverines fan and enjoys mocking the Buckeyes whenever the opportunity arises. After Carter Jr. had confirmed his resignation, Portnoy halted his Wake Up Barstool show and even joked that this would never happen at Michigan.

Infamously, former Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore was fired last season following an inappropriate relationship, but the situation escalated as he was arrested and charged. Now, Carter Jr. is under the spotlight, and Portnoy made sure to cover it on his morning show.

“This is breaking as of about 20 minutes ago, while we were live on air,” Portnoy said. “The Ohio State University President Ted Carter Jr. has resigned from his position after the university said he told trustees about an inappropriate relationship.”

Portnoy then paused before repeating himself. “Again, let me repeat,” he said. The Barstool founder then appeared to mock the university for lacking morality.

“You hate to see this stuff in the Big Ten, you hate to see it in this conference, there’s no place for it,” Portnoy added. “This is a school, you may remember, that banned me from attending games, taking the moral high ground, when clearly they had none to stand on.

“It’s a sad day for the conference that the president of this once mighty school has had to resign. Inappropriate relationships, can’t have it, not at this level.”

Portnoy then made a comedic reference to the Moore-Michigan situation, adding, “It wouldn’t happen at Michigan.”

The Ohio State University Board of Trustees accepted Carter Jr’s resignation on Sunday after meeting the previous day. He told trustees that he had an inappropriate relationship with someone seeking public resources to support her personal business, and opted to resign.

“For personal reasons, I have made the difficult decision to resign from my role as president of The Ohio State University,” Carter Jr. said in a statement. “I disclosed to the board of trustees that I made a mistake in allowing inappropriate access to Ohio State leadership.

“I believe we have made much progress during my time at Ohio State, and I’m sorry I’m not able to remain your president longer. The students, faculty and staff at this university are among the very best in the world, and the Education for Citizenship 2035 strategic plan has Ohio State poised to succeed for years to come.”
