Indiana Fever’s Sophie Cunningham has opened up about her dating preferences, revealing she won’t date anyone shorter than her.

Amid ongoing WNBA headlines surrounding Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations between the league and WNBPA, plus Caitlin Clark’s recent appearance alongside Olympic champion Eileen Gu, Cunningham made a candid confession on her podcast, ‘Show Me Something,’ acknowledging she cannot romantically pursue men who don’t match her stature.

The 6-foot-1 athlete and her co-host, West Wilson, were responding to listener voicemails when addressing a question from Josh, an Los Angeles resident. The revelation follows Cunningham’s previous frank disclosure about her current relationship situation.

Josh, the California-based caller, outlined his dilemma: standing around six feet himself, he’s drawn to women who exceed his height.

His message stated: “Mostly for Sophie, but I want West’s input on this one. I’m about 6-foot, but I find girls Sophie’s height and taller very attractive.”

“I also understand girls don’t want to date guys shorter than them, so should I just accept that my queen is going to be shorter than me, or is there something I can do to get taller girls’ attention? I would be fascinated to hear your guys’ take on this.”

Wilson promptly praised Josh’s appreciation for statuesque women, before Cunningham weighed in with her perspective. “I don’t think I’m the right tall person to ask because I could never date someone shorter than me,” Cunningham admitted frankly.

“Because I already feel big. So I want someone who is going to make me feel smaller.

“I get that,” Wilson responded, before Cunningham extended some encouragement to Josh.

She added: “But there are so many guys who have taller girls! I think people have really good energy, and I love so many people. I just can’t [date shorter], I would just feel like the man in my relationship.

“I think that you need to try going to sand volleyball, beach volleyball,” Cunningham suggested to Josh concerning his search for a taller woman. “Do beach volleyball, because there’s a lot of tall girls there, and volleyball in general, like I don’t know, that could be a vibe?”.

“Go find you a setter, Josh,” Wilson chimed in.

Cunningham’s 2025 campaign concluded prematurely after sustaining an MCL tear in her right knee during an August matchup against the Connecticut Sun, resulting in an offseason focused heavily on rehabilitation.

The Fever standout is projected to return for the 2026 season, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on Friday, May 8, despite ongoing uncertainty surrounding the absence of a CBA agreement.

This follows Cunningham’s recent comments regarding a WNBA clause affecting Caitlin Clark.
