EXCLUSIVE: As South by Southwest begins to ramp up this week, Lionsgate has inked a first-look deal with Austin comedy mainstay Adam Eget to develop original comedy features for the studio’s Motion Picture Group.

Eget will shepherd projects emerging from stand‑up, podcasts, live touring and digital platforms, giving comedic talent a pathway to theatrical releases.

Eget is known for cultivating comedic talent and revitalizing comedy venues. He oversees Joe Rogan’s Comedy Mothership, the Austin club that has become a centerpiece of the city’s fast‑growing comedy scene. Eget previously served as the talent coordinator at the legendary Comedy Store in Los Angeles, which he revived. Beyond his work in clubs, Eget was the co-host of Norm Macdonald Has a Show on Netflix as well as the podcast Norm Macdonald Live.

“Adam has a strong track record of discovering unique and promising new comedic talent at the earliest stages in their careers and taking them to the next level, in addition to having a singular comedic voice of his own,” said Erin Westerman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group President. “We’re excited to partner with him to build fresh, authentic, audience-driven comedies by backing distinctive voices early and giving creators the space to develop projects for a theatrical audience.”

“The most compelling comedy today is happening beyond the traditional film and TV system — in clubs, online and on new digital platforms,” said Eget. “Lionsgate understands the value of those voices and is committed to bringing them to the big screen.”

Separately at SXSW on Saturday, March 14, Lionsgate will have the world premiere of John Carney’s Power Ballad starring Nick Jonas and Paul Rudd at 2PM CT at the Paramount Theatre.
