Angel Reese has become an investor in the Australian women’s basketball team, the Brisbane Bullets, while keeping herself busy outside the WNBA.

The 23-year-old is one of many WNBA stars fighting for salary increases amid the sports substantial growth in popularity, but she is using her money to invest while being part of the Australian team. The Bullets are hoping to join Australia’s top basketball league, the WNBL, with Reese jumping on board, which could see their status rise.

The team has also appointed long-time NBA assistant coach Will Weaver, who has recently worked with the Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets and Brooklyn Nets.

The team’s CEO, Malcolm Watts, spoke of Reese’s addition, stating: “Angel is a fantastic ambassador for basketball and a globally recognised superstar.

“Basketball is Queensland’s fastest-growing sport, and having Angel involved as we pursue a WNBL team is a huge asset.”

Reese is currently playing in the Unrivaled league during the WNBA’s offseason, after being unhappy with the Chicago Sky and even suggesting she could look to be traded.

The former LSU star is one of many WNBA players who have been outspoken about player pay over the last 18 months, while embroiled in a standoff over what should be in the next CBA.

Players are looking to see the salary cap rise significantly as money generated has, with a more aggressive revenue-sharing model.

She recently stated: “Everybody wants to play, but all of us want to play at what we should be compensated for. So we’re just going to continue to negotiate.

“Negotiation is not easy. I talk to my team all the time, when I negotiate deals, you go back and forth until you come to a common ground of what we both can go for.

“I’m just going to continue to be a voice and do whatever I can as a young voice that knows that I do have a platform in this. … We do all want to play basketball, but at the same time we do want to be compensated for what we deserve.”

The likes of Caitlin Clark and Breanna Stewart have echoed Reese’s sentiments, with the Sky forward also stating that they could hold out of the league in 2026.

She said: “I need to be in the meetings because I’m hearing that if [the league] don’t give us what we want, we’re sitting out. That’s a possibility, for real.”

Reese currently makes just under $74,000 from her deal with the Sky.
