TEHRAN, Iran (KVOA) – Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has made his first public statement after taking over the role from his slain father.

In a message broadcasted on state television, Khamenei said, “the crucial Strait of Hormuz should remain closed and that Iran will continue attacks on its Gulf neighbors.”

The price of oil has surged above $100 a barrel again. This comes as the U.S. and Israel show no sign of stopping their war, while Iran increases its attacks on global shipping and energy infrastructure across the Gulf.

AAA says the average price in Tucson is up almost 20 cents since Monday. The Arizona average remains above $4 a gallon.
