SEATTLE — This year marks a major milestone in American history: The United States is turning 250 years old.

To celebrate the country’s Semiquincentennial, the U.S. Mint is rolling out a once-in-a-generation change to some U.S. coins.

For the first time in a century, the dime, the quarter, and the half dollar are getting special one-year only designs.

ARC Seattle co-anchors Steve McCarron and Tyrah Majors spoke with Paul Hollis, Director of the U.S. Mint, about the major redesign, the symbols or themes that will appear on the new coins, and how the coin design process works.
