Holger Rune is back in the win column after securing a first-round victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the Canadian Open.
The Dane defeated Perricard in straight sets, in what marked his first match back since his disappointing Wimbledon campaign.
Rune lost to Nicolas Jarry in his opening match at the All England Club earlier this summer, recording his worst finish at the championships since 2022.
Despite winning the first two sets, he was ultimately defeated by the Chilean and joined a long list of shocking upsets early on in the tournament.
Now, following Rune’s withdrawal from the Washington Open, the world number nine has provided a fitness update and revealed what he did after his unexpected loss in South West London.

In an interview with Tennis Channel, Rune said: “I feel good, honestly, I mean, I had a small back spasm in Washington, but nothing dangerous.
“You know, it’s treated now, I got a lot of good massages, a lot of good treatment, so it’s, it’s feeling good, and I had good practices here and yeah, good first round.
“The body feels healthy also after today and after Wimbledon obviously big disappointment don’t want to think about the past but yeah I took a week off actually.
“It’s the first time in a long time I haven’t touched a racket for seven days. So that was, I think, good for me and just rested, recharged and started training very hard also physically, so I feel ready.”
