KINGS POINT, N.Y. (3/14/26) – Back-to-Back fourth quarter goals from Miguel Lontok and TJ Mills vaulted the Kean University men’s lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED!!!
After falling behind 3-1 in the first, the Cougars would take their first lead of the afternoon behind three straight goals.
Oliver Lugo, Aarin Arbore, and Aaron Boccio posted a goal apiece as Kean held a 4-3 advantage early in the second quarter.
USMMA scored twice, before Lontok tallied his second goal of the first half to pull the Cougars even at 5-5.
The Mariners tallied a goal with under two minutes to play in the half as USMMA took a 6-5 lead into halftime.
After an even third quarter which saw two goals from Arbore, the Cougars exploded for six fourth quarter goals.
Kean notched four of the six goals over the first eight minutes, which gave the Cougars an 11-9 advantage midway through.
The Mariners would even the contest at 11-11 after capitalizing on a Jonathan Ruff locked in illegal body check that led to back-to-back man up goals.
Kean would push the lead back to 13-11 with goals by Lontok and Mills in nearly a 30 second span.
USMMA would cut the lead to one with a score inside the final minute, but a key John Westbrook save preserved the victory.
INSIDE THE BOX
Arbore totaled five points on three goals and two assists.
Lontok tallied four goals.
Jacob Dvoor recorded four points on two goals and two assists.
Christian Updale went 15-for-22 with 12 groundballs.
Jake Gruzas totaled two groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Nick Paterno and Westbrook combined for 10 saves.
