Just Another Tuesday?
It was just another Tuesday for me, until it wasn’t.
On March 10, BELIFT LAB announced that Lee Heeseung would be leaving ENHYPEN to pursue a solo career. The news arrived abruptly, accompanied by a handwritten letter from Heeseung himself addressing fans.
I have been with ENHYPEN for an extremely long time. I watched I-Land when it was airing, and we were all referred to as Eggies. I remember eagerly waiting every week for new episodes and then votings came, and I got emotionally invested in all the trainees.
I remember how emotional the finale was, and when they finally revealed who was going to be in the final group. I felt like it was perfect. I loved the group that was debuted, and in my opinion, I couldn’t have asked for anything else. And then there was their debut, and I felt like it was a chef’s kiss.
I remember how excited I was for it. I mean, I was only 12 or 13 at that time, and I remember how I was eagerly waiting, watching all the teasers, and I felt like something special was about to begin. That’s how long I have been with ENHYPEN, and they have been my comfort group.
So, imagine my confusion when, on a random Tuesday, we suddenly got the news that Heeseung was leaving the group. I was shocked. I thought to myself, “Is this a rumor?” And then, as more posts came out, I was even considering whether this was some sort of early April Fool’s joke, except for the fact that it’s only the second week of March.
It just did not make sense. So, my world, and every other ENGENEs’ world, was literally turned upside down.
A Defining Presence in ENHYPEN
Fans and critics alike have long regarded Heeseung as one of ENHYPEN’s Ace. Even during I-Land, he was nicknamed the ace. Born on October 15, 2001, he has been known for his versatility as a vocalist, dancer, pianist, guitarist, songwriter, and composer.
Heeseung has played a significant role in ENHYPEN’s creative process over the years. Beyond being the group’s main vocalist, he has contributed to the songwriting and composition of several tracks, including co-writing and composing the B-side “Sleep Tight” from THE SIN: VANISH alongside fellow member Jake.
He has also been involved in vocal recording and arrangement discussions, helping shape harmonies and overall vocal delivery in the studio. During rehearsals and stage preparations, Heeseung often contributed ideas for performance details and choreography refinement, making him not only a performer but also an active creative contributor to ENHYPEN’s music and stage presence.
Before debuting with ENHYPEN, Heeseung trained under BIGHIT MUSIC, where he spent time training alongside the future members of Tomorrow X Together. His path to debut eventually came through the survival show I-Land, where he finished fifth place, earning a spot in the group that would become ENHYPEN.
Many viewers believed even then that the show was practically made for him. Everyone and their moms knew Heeseung was going to debut; there was no doubt in it.
For that reason, his departure from the group he worked so hard to join has left many fans questioning why now.

Questions Surrounding the Timing
A big part of the confusion seems to come from how recent events contradict the notion that Heeseung had been preparing to leave for a long time.
Just this week alone, ENHYPEN had a schedule for fan call events where all seven members, including Heeseung, were supposed to interact with the fans through video calls. However, when the events were held on March 11, the six members were present during the call events, and the call events with Heeseung were announced to be postponed.
There were also multiple scheduled events that the members had to attend, including international promotions and performances, all of which were announced with all seven members still on the list.
Hello, Melbourne had announced ENHYPEN as one of the headline performers for its inaugural edition, scheduled to take place on March 14 at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne. All the members were excited to perform and meet ENGENEs, and just a few hours ago it was announced that Heeseung would not be taking part in it.
The Australian television program The Morning Show also promoted ENHYPEN’s upcoming appearance on the show by posting promotional images with all seven members of the group. The show encouraged fans to send in their questions for the members, where response has been overwhelming, with over 13,000 replies sent in by the viewers.
Members Jay and Jake had joined the show speaking about how they are excited about their first-ever Australian performance and to meet their fans, but what caught everyone’s attention was the segment when the host asked them how many rehearsals their band had to do, Jake said:
“A lot. There’s been a bit of changes in choreo with the formation, all that.”
Fans quickly interpreted this as another sign that Heeseung was meant to perform at the event with all the other members and that the changes in choreography and formation were all sudden as his departure was not planned.
Another piece of information that caught the attention of the fans and created a buzz among them was the release of new merchandise for the group. The merchandise of all the members of the groups, including Heeseung was posted about merely two hours before the departure news came out.
This indicates that the situation might have arisen suddenly and not after a long period of time. It is also claimed by the fans that the members of the groups were busy promoting their latest album. Heeseung himself had spoken about the future plans of the group and the need to meet the fans.
ENGENEs Take Action
In the hours following the announcement, fans mobilized on a massive scale.
Across social media, millions of posts appeared under hashtags calling for Heeseung’s return. According to figures circulating within the fandom, around seven million tweets mentioning him were posted in a single day, and over twenty eight million in just 4 days and 65 million engagements on X, pushing his name to trend globally.
The reaction has not been limited to online posts. Fans have organized a wide range of coordinated actions, including:

Fans Push Back With a Petition
One of the largest initiatives is an online petition calling for the company to reconsider the decision.
A petition on change.org has already gathered more than 1.7 million verified signatures, and the number continues to grow. (GO SIGN IT NOW)
Its creator wrote the petition in Korean, Japanese, and English, a deliberate choice reflecting ENHYPEN’s international audience and main markets. The message is addressed directly to BELIFT LAB and HYBE.
Importantly, the petition does not ask Heeseung to give up his solo ambitions. Instead, fans are calling on management to find a way for those goals to coexist with his membership in ENHYPEN, keeping the group together as seven members.
Fans are also leaving messages for Heeseung across Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, and even the petition website itself to let him know that he is not alone and that his fans will always stand with him<3
Questions and Fan Theories
As with any sudden development in the K-pop industry, speculation has quickly followed.
Some fans believe the timing suggests the decision may not have been entirely voluntary, pointing to the group’s ongoing promotions and plans that appeared to include Heeseung. Others point out that he had recently spoken enthusiastically about meeting fans and ENHYPEN’s future activities, which makes the announcement feel inconsistent to some observers.
At the moment, however, these ideas remain fan theories rather than confirmed information.
An Ongoing Movement
What began as shock has now turned into a sustained effort by the fandom to be heard. From trending hashtags and mass petitions to physical protests and global fan campaigns, ENGENEs are continuing to rally around one central message: they want ENHYPEN to remain a seven-member group.
Whether the situation will change remains unclear. But one thing is certain. The reaction from fans has demonstrated just how powerful and organized a global fandom can be when it comes together.
A Note to Heeseung
Heeseung, I really hope you’re okay, resting well. Please take care of yourself; we just want you to be okay. The group does not feel the same without you. Your voice, your energy, and even your laughter are such a special part of Enhypen. You have always been someone who comforts both the members and the fans, including me. That is one of the reasons why Enhypen is my comfort group.
We are not trying to stop your solo career. We are always excited to listen to the music you write and compose. You can pursue your own path while still being part of the group, and we will support you no matter what you choose. More than anything, we just want you to be happy in whatever you do. Enhypen feels complete with all seven members.
You are loved so much by your members and by ENGENEs. Thank you for always being there for your members and us. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you put into Enhypen, for the music you create, and for the performances and moments you share with us. We truly appreciate everything you do. We love you, and we will always be here for you. ♡
