Carmine Caridi is the first actor to ever be officially banned by the Academy. The reason why? He was caught in a copyright infringement scandal.
In 2004, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that a screener of the film Something’s Gotta Give had been illegally circulated and traced back to Caridi, an Academy voter. He was eventually kicked out because of several pirated screeners that had been linked to him.
He passed away on May 28, 2019.
