SPRINGVILLE, Utah (KUTV) — New video shows the damage left behind at the Hobble Creek Golf Course after a powerful windstorm uprooted trees and scattered debris across the property.
Hobble Creek Golf Course is owned by the city, but operates as a self-funded enterprise. City officials say crews are now working to clear debris — a process expected to take several days.
Drone video shows the aftermath across the 75-acre golf course, where nearly 25 trees were knocked down during the storm.
Tom Hortman said the level of damage was surprising.
“A lot of wind. It was bad.”

Hortman said he has lived in the area for decades and has never seen a storm like this impact the course.
” I’ve been here for 40 years, so I haven’t seen one like this ever.”
Craig Norman, the golf professional at Hobble Creek Golf Course, said debris from fallen trees is spread across large sections of the fairways.
“I mean, it’s just there’s a mess everywhere,” Norman said.
Norman said clearing branches and debris could take several days.
“When you look at the fairway, and it’s basically 100% covered in debris that’s got to be cleaned up,” Norman said.
Although the golf course is owned by the city, Norman said the repairs will not come from taxpayer dollars.
“It’ll come out of the funds that we accumulate,” Norman said.
The course operates through an enterprise fund, meaning it runs like its own business using revenue generated by the golf course.
Norman said the closure could also mean lost revenue depending on the weather and demand.
“Today it’s cold and windy. We probably we might lose a couple thousand dollars. If it was 80 degrees like it’s supposed to be on Thursday and we might lose $10,000,” Norman said.
At this point, the staff says it is too early to estimate the total cost of cleanup and repairs.
“I have no idea how to project that now,” Norman said.
Despite the damage, neighbors and golfers say the course remains a beloved destination in the canyon.
Officials say they hope to reopen the course by the end of the week, but that will depend on how quickly crews can clear debris from the greens.
