Months after other teams have made their official staff announcements for the 2026 season, the Green Bay Packers have officially finalized their coaching staff for the upcoming season. Let’s break down the new offensive, defensive and special teams staff.
Offensive Coordinator: Adam StenavichPassing game coordinator: Jason VrableQuarterbacks coach/assistant head coach – offense: Luke GetsyRunning backs coach: Ben SirmansWide receivers coach: Noah PauleyAssistant wide receivers coach: Rob GrossoTight ends coach: John DunnOffensive line coach: Luke ButkusAssistant offensive line coach: Eddie GordonPass game specialist/game management: Connor LewisOffensive quality control: T.C. McCartneyOffensive assistant (fellowship): Jeremiah Kolone
Former Packers quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator Luke Getsy returned to the team in 2024 as a defensive consultant and then as a senior offensive assistant in 2025. He’s not only been named the quarterbacks coach, which was previously reported, but also got the assistant head coach tag, too. Getsy replaces Sean Mannion, who was named the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
Noah Pauley was poached from Penn State to be Green Bay’s next receivers coach, and the Packers likely paid a decent buyout to acquire him, per sources in the college football world. Pauley was previously the receivers coach at North Dakota State, overlapping with Christian Watson, and Iowa State, before taking the Penn State job when Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell moved schools this offseason. Pauley will replace Ryan Mahaffey, who was allowed to leave to become the run game coordinator and tight ends coach on Mannion’s staff. In the eyes of the NFL, there are only three tiers of coaches: head coaches, offensive and defensive coordinators and then assistants. Head coach Matt LaFleur could have blocked the Mahaffey-to-Eagles move, since, in the eyes of the NFL, it was considered a lateral assistant coach move.
Otherwise, the Packers’ offensive staff, as far as the on-field coaches go, remains. The team does not have a run game coordinator, but they haven’t since the 2021 season, when Adam Stenavich, still the offensive line coach, had the title. Presumably, Stenavich fills some of the role of run-game coordinator as a non-play-calling offensive coordinator with an offensive line background.
On the assistants to the assistants level, the Packers brought in T.C. McCartney, a former tight ends and quarterbacks coach at the NFL level, as a quality control coach.
Defensive coordinator: Jonathan GannonDefensive line coach: Vince OghobaaseOutside linebackers/run game coordinator/assistant head coach – defense: DeMarcus CovingtonLinebackers: Sam SiefkesSecondary/pass game coordinator: Bobby BabichCornerbacks: Daniel BullocksDefensive quality control: Jamael LettDefensive quality control: Will SmartDefensive analyst: Scott Fuchs
The only coaches who remain on the Packers’ 2026 defensive staff from last year are DeMarcus Covington, Vince Oghobaase and Jamael Lett. Both Covington and Oghobaase got promotions, as Covington moved from defensive line to outside linebackers (yet another sign that the team is moving to a 3-4 defense) and Oghobaase went from an assistant defensive line coach to the defensive line coach.
Usually, teams only split outside linebacker and inside linebacker duties if they’re a 3-4 team. 4-3 teams typically have a single linebackers coach handle the entire group. Green Bay hasn’t outright said that they’re going to be a 3-4 defense under new defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon, who has yet to have a press conference despite going into the second month of the job, but general manager Brian Gutekunst hinted at it several times at the combine.
Oghobaase was brought to Green Bay from Boston College by Jeff Hafley, but he was not taken to Miami when Hafley, previously the defensive coordinator of the Packers, left for the Dolphins’ head coaching opportunity.
Gannon hired linebackers coach Sam Siefkes, who was recently the defensive coordinator of Virginia Tech, to coach his unit again. Siefkes was Gannon’s first linebackers coach with the Arizona Cardinals, when Gannon was the head coach. Packers linebackers coach Sean Duggan left to become the defensive coordinator of Hafley’s Dolphins this offseason.
Bobby Babich will coach the secondary and carry the title of pass game coordinator, replacing Derrick Ansley, who was allowed to leave for a lateral job as the defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys this offseason. Ansley and Covington were considered to be the Packers’ top defensive assistants in 2025 by some in NFL coaching circles. Babich was the defensive coordinator for the Bills in 2024 and 2025 after previously serving as the team’s linebackers coach from 2022 to 2023 and had worked in their secondary for the prior five seasons. Babich was also interviewed for the Packers’ defensive coordinator vacancy in 2024, which resulted in the hiring of Hafley.
Daniel Bullocks, who previously spent the 2017 to 2025 seasons with the San Francisco 49ers in various defensive back coaching roles, is Green Bay’s new cornerbacks coach. On paper, this should allow Babich to spend more time with safeties, a position he’s coached in the past, instead of cornerbacks, a position he hasn’t. Bullocks replaces Ryan Downard, who had been with the Packers since 2018 and was allowed to leave for a lateral role with Hafley’s Dolphins this offseason.
Will Smart was hired away from Vanderbilt, where he was a pass-rush specialist, to become a defensive quality control coach. Smart replaces “Ball King” Wendel Davis, who also left for Miami. Scott Fuchs, a long-time college offensive line coach, joined Green Bay as a defensive analyst, which is an interesting fit.
Special teams coordinator: Cam AchordAssistant special teams coach: Cory HarkeyAssistant special teams coach: Jeff Koonz
Cam Achord, formerly a New England Patriots special teams coordinator, replaced Rich Bisaccia, who stepped down and then took the special teams coordinator job at Clemson, this offseason. Cory Harkey, who was third in the pecking order in the Packers’ special teams room last year, was promoted to an assistant role, which he shares with Jeff Koonz, who was previously a defensive assistant for the Packers after coaching special teams and defense at the college level.
