CY Fest’s upcoming Los Angeles festival has been cancelled following a wave of sexual misconduct allegations made online against promoter Ignacio Rodriguera (aka Nacho Corrupted).

 

 

In the initial fallout, bands including Iron Lung, Tørsö, Apartment 213 and Tripas Sangrientas dropped from the bill.

Rodriguera later stated he would be “stepping away” from the festival to address what he called false allegations through legal channels, claiming an outside promoter and venue staff would handle the event.

Originally Tankcrimes’ Scotty Heath stepped into to try and salvage the mess, however not even a day later Heath would remove himself from that role as well. 

Since then, the cancellations have continued, with planned headliners Subhumans among those bowing out. Acts including Ghoul, Dropdead, Weekend Nachos, Mess, Resistant Culture, ACxDC, Triste, Antichrist Demoncore, Haggus, Hong Kong Fuck You and Hell Fire have also exited.

In a newly uploaded clip posted by Heath, he shared his reasoning behind stepping down:

Hey guys, Scotty here. I made a video yesterday about how I had called the promoter of CYFest and asked him to step down and that I was going to take the reins of the fest. I wanted to save the fest and make it a fun and safe weekend for everybody involved, all my friends who are in the bands and also all the fans who have non-refundable tickets. And I thought I could pull it off. And there’s just too many questions came in from you guys that I don’t have the answers for.

And so I just felt like I was in over my head. I really, I did make a solid attempt, but I think I rushed the announcement. It was less than 30 hours after I’d done it. And Everything happened pretty spontaneously, and I was just trying to get out there so quick because the fest is coming up so soon. So I have bowed out of that, and I’ve— the venues are still running the fest.

They have very competent staff and in-house people that will be doing that. But because there’s so many unanswered questions that I don’t have the answers for, I can’t do it. And I’m sorry if I let you down if you were— gave me positive messages. And I’m sorry if you had questions that I couldn’t answer because I can’t. And for that reason, I’m going to bow out.
