Tiger Woods is staying coy about the possibility of playing in the Masters next month.
Speaking to reporters after the TGL semifinals, Woods explained that he’s “working on it” in regards to getting his body up to the standard it would need to be for the major tournament:
“I said I’ve been working on it. Sometimes I have good days, sometimes I have bad days. Disk replacement is not a lot of fun. … So as I said, I’ve had a lot of procedures prior to that, so the body doesn’t quite heal like it was when I was 24. Doesn’t quite bounce back. So I have good days when I can pretty much do anything, and other days where it’s hard to just to move around.”
Woods previously told CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman there is at least a possibility he could be back to play Augusta for the first time since 2024.
Woods underwent back surgery on Oct. 10 after a scan determined he had a collapsed disc in L4/5, disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal.”
It was the second surgical procedure Woods had in 2025. He required surgery in March to repair a ruptured Achilles that occurred when he was training at his home.
Woods has had a series of physical issues over the past few years that required major surgery. He suffered compound fractures to his leg after a car crash in 2021; had ankle surgery in 2023 to address arthritis that developed following the leg injuries from the car crash; and had a nerve issue in his back that required surgery to fix in 2024.
Amid his ongoing recovery, Woods has been getting in some golf work recently. He hit practice shots with the Jupiter Links team prior to the TGL matchup against New York Golf Club on Jan. 13.
Woods has an ownership stake in the Jupiter Links club, but he has downplayed the possibility of playing with the group of Max Homa, Tom Kim and Akshay Bhatia as they prepare to play Los Angeles in the final starting on March 23.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Woods’ first Masters appearance as a pro. He did play in the 1995 event as an amateur, making the cut and finishing tied for 41st.
The 2026 Masters will be played from April 9-12 at Augusta National Golf Club.
