Woman, man injured in Downtown Pittsburgh shooting

Pittsburgh police investigating on Penn Avenue in Cultural District

YEAH, KELLY. PITTSBURGH POLICE TELL US TWO PEOPLE WERE SHOT, TWO ADULTS, A MAN AND A WOMAN, AND SHELL CASINGS WERE FOUND JUST HERE BEHIND ME. THIS IS THE 900 BLOCK OF PENN AVENUE. AND THIS IS WHERE THE EVIDENCE MARKERS WERE. THIS HAPPENED RIGHT AROUND 425. NOW, POLICE TELL US THAT THE PEOPLE WHO WERE SHOT ARE OKAY. THEY WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL IN STABLE CONDITION. BUT WE TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE IN THE CULTURAL DISTRICT. IN FACT, ONE WOMAN WAS WORKING RIGHT HERE IN THIS BUILDING, ACTUALLY UP ON THE SIXTH FLOOR. AND THIS IS WHAT SHE TELLS ME. SHE HEARD WE WERE JUST SITTING THERE AND MY COWORKER AND I, WE WERE JUST TYPING, MAKING NOTES, AND THEN WE HEAR THIS AND WE’RE JUST LIKE, WHAT WAS THAT? AND, YOU KNOW, THEN WE WE LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW AND SAW EVERYBODY RUNNING AWAY. RIGHT THERE. NICOLE RYDER TELLS ME THAT SHE DID STAY IN HER OFFICE, BUT THAT SHE SPOKE WITH SOMEONE WHO ACTUALLY SAW THE SHOOTER JUST BEFORE THE SHOOTING AND SAID SOMETHING IMPLYING THAT THE SHOOTING WAS GOING TO HAPPEN JUST BEFORE THOSE SHOTS WERE FIRED. NOW, THIS IS THE CULTURAL DISTRICT. IT’S AN AREA WHERE MANY PEOPLE FILL THE STREETS OFTEN, ESPECIALLY ON FRIDAY NIGHTS INTO THE WEEKENDS. AND WE TALKED TO PITTSBURGH POLICE SPOKESPERSON ABOUT THAT. THIS IS KARA. IT IS RARE DOWNTOWN. ABSOLUTELY. BUT, YOU KNOW, IT IS ALWAYS MORE PRONOUNCED WHEN IT’S DOWNTOWN. THERE ARE A LOT OF THERE ARE BUSINESSES. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO LIVE DOWNTOWN. THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO WORK DOWN HERE AND PLAY DOWN HERE. SO, YOU KNOW, THERE’S A LOT OF LOT OF FOOT TRAFFIC AND A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO WERE WITNESS TO THIS OR, YOU KNOW, HAD HEARD ABOUT IT AND WERE IN THE PROXIMITY. OKAY. YOU’RE LOOKING NOW, ACTUALLY ACROSS NINTH INTO THE 800 BLOCK HERE OF PENN AVENUE. THAT IS WHERE POLICE TELL US THE SECOND VICTIM WAS FOUND. SO WHILE THEY WERE BOTH SHOT HERE IN THE 900 BLOCK, ONE OF THEM, THE MALE VICTIM, MADE HIS WAY JUST DOWN THE STREET. SO THERE ARE STILL POLICE THERE ON THE SCENE. AND WE HAVE LEARNED FROM PITTSBURGH POLICE THAT THE SHOOTER TOOK OFF DOWN GARRISON, WHICH IS REALLY VERY CLOSE TO WHERE I’M STANDING, HEADING TOWA
