CINCINNATI (Cincinnati Business Courier) – The Cincinnati Reds franchise value has increased in the past year, but there’s plenty of uncertainty on the horizon.
The Reds franchise value rose 8% in the past year to $1.67 billion, according to estimates from online sports business publication Sportico. That’s up from $1.55 billion a year ago. Kurt Badenhausen, a sports business reporter at Sportico and industry veteran who has calculated sports franchise valuations for nearly 30 years at Forbes and Sportico, put together the estimates.
But the Reds rank just 26th among 30 Major League Baseball teams in valuation, according to Sportico estimates. And their increase over the past year fell short of the MLB average gain of 12%.
