City issues boil water notice for North Shore due to Kona low 2 due to potential damage

  • March 22, 2026

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A boil water notice is now in effect for all water users in Waialua, Haleiwa, Sunset, Pupukea, and Waialee ending at Turtle Bay, the City and County of Honolulu said.

On Saturday, officials said it was due to potential damage to the water system caused by the second Kona low.

The notice is in effect until further notice. Water users in the area should boil any water pulled from the tap before drinking.

The city said do not drink the water without boiling it first.

Officials said boiling the water ensures the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes. The water should be brought to “a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for three minutes.”

The Board of Water Supply will announce when it is no longer necessary to boil water, the city said.

Additionally, the BWS is setting up water tankers for customers who need water:

Two 2,000-gallon tankers will be positioned at Waialua Community Association and Sunset Beach Neighborhood Park.An additional water tanker will be positioned at the Waialua District Park Recreation Center parking lot on Goodale Avenue.

The city is also asking residents to conserve water as power outages are affecting the utility’s ability to pump water from its wells into its reservoirs.
