It is a stacked fourth round lineup at the WTA Miami Open, and all eight matches will be played on Day 7. This article features four Top 10 players, including top seed Aryna Sabalenka and #3 seed Elena Rybakina. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate, but who will advance?
WTA Miami Day 7 Predictions
Amanda Anisimova vs Belinda Bencic
Head-to-Head: Anisimova 2-2 Bencic
It was an easy victory for Amanda Anisimova in the third round against Yulia Starodubtseva. She was never in trouble, but still lost her serve twice and will need to be careful behind her second serve against Belinda Bencic. Anisimova can beat anyone on her day, but she has not been at her best this season, and Bencic is the more consistent player right now. If Anisimova doesn’t serve well, she will be in big trouble.
Prediction: Bencic in 3
Jessica Pegula vs Jaqueline Cristian
Head-to-Head: Pegula 1-0 Cristian
Jessica Pegula has been the third-best player this season, and she is comfortably dispatching players in the early rounds. Her serve looks better than ever, and she is ever so solid from the baseline. Jaqueline Cristian defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova for the second time this season, but this time it was much closer. Alexandrova served for the match in the third set, but Cristian fought hard to break and clinched the tiebreak. It was a huge win for the Romanian, but I don’t see her pushing Pegula.
Prediction: Pegula in 2
Elena Rybakina vs Talia Gibson
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Iva Jovic is a very talented player, but she was helpless against Talia Gibson’s level of tennis in the third round. Gibson totally outplayed the American to register another Top 20 win to her name. She is improving with every tournament and playing Top 10 tennis. However, that might not be enough against Elena Rybakina, who is in a different league. Gibson has the game to make this competitive, but the World No.3 should prevail.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
Aryna Sabalenka vs Qinwen Zheng
Head-to-Head: Sabalenka 7-1 Zheng
This is the rematch of last year’s quarterfinal at the Miami Open, where Aryna Sabalenka won in straight sets. Qinwen Zheng got a great win over Madison Keys, making a comeback after losing the first set. She is trending in the right direction, but is still far from challenging the World No.1. This has never been a good matchup for the Chinese player, with just three sets won in eight matches. Sabalenka has the clear edge.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
